Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky – a prominent Ukrainian aircraft designer.
He was the creator of the world’s first aircraft such as the four-engine «Russky Vityaz» (1913), the heavy four-engine bomber and passenger aircraft «Ilya Muromets» (1914), a transatlantic seaplane (1934), and the first serial single-rotor helicopter design (1942).
He is considered the world’s first inventor of the helicopter.
In 1918, he emigrated to the United States, where in 1923 he founded the Sikorsky Aircraft company. He was also the designer of the first amphibious aircraft in the United States.
The Sikorsky Aircraft company still exists today and produces aerial vehicles used for transporting U.S. heads of state.
